Aqua

Regent Street, London

2011

A successful Hong Kong restaurant group, this project is Aqua’s first venture in London and forms one half of the dual Aqua Restaurant complex located on the top floor of the former Dickins and Jones department store on Regent Street. The restaurant’s offer is contemporary Spanish food.

The main design feature is an installation incorporating 10,000 timber beads which hang from a sloped ceiling over the main dining area: This ceiling feature is reflected in mirrors at both ends of the space, creating the illusion that it continues ad infinitum. The timber bead detail is repeated throughout the restaurant as shading for lights and wall hangings in the private dining rooms. Hand-carved oak wooden blocks which reference Spanish patterns form the backdrop to the Cava Bar.
