John Ruskin Street
Southwark, London
2011
In this unusual project which extends the kitchen of a home in Southwark, London, one of the kitchen counters was has been ‘pushed through’ the external wall, into a side corridor of the house, and now hovers as a cantilever in mid-air. Carried out under permitted development, the extrusion is rendered in a sand-coloured in order to blend in with the existing brick.
Since daylight in the kitchen was essential, the splash back is formed of a large opaque pane of glazing. Sliding doors for the room were manufactured in Switzerland, transported to London and then installed by the Swiss company.
